Minimally Invasive Laparoscopic Surgery

Our goal at Lexington Surgical is to provide our patients with the best surgical options available. All options will be discussed with you, and in conjunction with your family physician, the type of surgery that is most appropriate for your needs will be agreed upon and performed.

One option, which may be discussed with you, is known as "minimally invasive surgery". It is a surgical technique using a long, thin telescope-like instrument attached to a video camera and video monitor. This allows the surgeon to view the patient's organs and internal structures while performing the surgery through a tiny incision.

The advantages to minimally invasive surgery over traditional surgery include:
  • Less Pain
  • Shorter Hospitalization Stay
  • Smaller incisions, less scarring
  • Quicker return to normal activity
  • Some procedures which are now being done invasively include:
  • Laparoscopic Surgery for Clinically Severe Obesity
  • Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal)
  • Laparoscopic treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (heartburn)
  • Treatment of Hiatal Hernias
  • Laparoscopic treatment of diseases of the esophagus
  • Laparoscopic treatment diseases of the stomach
  • Laparoscopic removal of the spleen, colon, and appendix
  • Laparoscopic repair of groin, ventral, and incisional hernias
  • Please feel free to discuss this surgery with any of our surgeons. They will be happy to evaluate your needs and consider this option as part of your care.
